Hi there!! Its been one week now, since Kelli and I started on this journey of self improvement. I wasn't so gunho at first, but I am slowly and gradually getting into the swing of things. We joined the local gym here in our little town and have manage to make it to the gym twice this past week. Let me tell how my week started off...
New Year's Eve:
My son and his ex-wife decided to celebrate their twin sons' birthday. So, Dave and I and Kelli and the kids headed up to Bakersfield. We had a lot of fun with the boys and it was amazing how in 6 short years, they went from tiny little babies to such nice young boys in kindergarten. After the birthday party, Dave and I decided to go to dinner. We ate at Trader Joe's on Ming Ave. Dave had the rib-eye and I had a small 6oz steak. I can't remember the name...just that it was a small piece. I can never finish anything larger than 8oz. After dinner, we headed for WalMart. There was a few things I needed and I thought, why not pick them up while we're here. Then we headed for home. We got back into town about an hour before the ball was to drop. Once the clock struck midnight, we wished each other a Happy New Year...I was on the phone with Kelli at that time, so the three of us sent out salutations. The Dave headed for bed, and I headed for the rubber room to start on the new layouts I've been wanting to scrap. I didn't make it to bed till about 12:45am.
New Year's Day:
I awoke about 8:30am. That was all well and good, till I tried to turn my head. I had the sharpest pain come up my shoulder to my spine and up into the back of my head. The pain was terrible. I couldn't move. I don't know what I did to it, all I knew was that I wanted to pain to quit.

So much for a Happy New Year! I had a very restless night. I couldn't turn over without the pain just driving me crazy! What a way to begin the New Year. So, when I finally dragged myself out of bed, and had a couple cups of caffeine, I called the Dr. to see if he was in. Afterall, this is a holiday. Sure enough, he was in and was able to see me that morning! He prescribed some meds for me and had me to over to the hospital for x-rays. I could definitely feel the difference once the meds took effect.

By this time, my scrapbooking goal for the month has been shot all to kingdom come. But all is not lost. I'll continue and get those pages finished. Yesterday, when I saw the Dr I asked him about working out at the gym. I thought this might be placed on the back burner as well. But it wasn't. He said, just because the top part of me in healing, doesn't mean I can't work the legs and such. So, with that in mind, Kelli and I headed over the gym and worked the treadmill. We're starting out slow and working our way up very gradually. We've also been researching, what's good for cardio, and what's good for strenght training. Also, we know we need to stretch before and also cool down. That'll get the blood pumping.

My neck is feeling better. But Dave isn't feeling too good. He decided to stay home from work and rest. I hope the poor guy feels better. Kelli and I sat and planned out our menu for the next week. Well, mine if for the next week...Kelli's is for the next 3 weeks. Since Kelli doesn't have access to SparkPeople.com like I do, she is using a journal to write down everything she is eating. Then she comes back and checks with Spark People and counts her calories that way. For me, I go into Spark People first thing in the morning and plan out my menu for the day. I make the substitutions I need to make. We can also track our fitness training as well with Spark People.

The meds are working so well. Just a twinge here and there. But full range of motion hasn't returned yet. But these things take time to heal. So, once again, we are working slowly on our fitness training. Besides, I know how much it hurts when the muscles get all knotted up. We may be only burning a small amount of calories, but the calories are still being burned. I also found another website I used in the past. Its www.hackersdiet.com. I plug in my weight on a daily basis and it shows the progression of my weight loss.

The day started out just like every other day. Dave was up at 5am, out the door by 6. I got up around 7:30am. Kelli and I were planning on grocery shopping today. She had her list all ready to go and I was filling in last minute details, remembering some things we needed, when the phone rang. It was one of Dave's supervisors telling me, Dave was suffering from some dizziness, and then tingling sensation down his arm. Decision was made to send him down to the ER via ambulance. OMG...I heart went to my throat. I knew this type of day would come, but I wasn't ready for it. Its too soon for this. We're still young and still have a lot of living to do. So, grocery shopping went out the window with that phone call, and Kelli and I headed to the ER. They ran all kinds of tests on Dave, and after 7 hours of being in the ER, they sent him home. He is to meet with his cardiologist on Monday. Please keep him in your prayers.

After a day like yesterday, who would want to do anything. But Dave seems ok. He is resting. He's watching football and reading. He seems to be doing ok. We'll see when he goes see the Dr on Monday. So, I headed over to Kelli's to help with some things. I wasn't too far away and had my cell phone. Housework is a great workout for the day. Bending, lifting, pushing, pulling.

So, here we are. My week in review. I think, as boring as it may seem, I think I'll journal on a daily basis. Telling what I ate the day before, what exercises I'm doing. And how I am feeling about the life style change I am trying to make. I watched "Biggest Loser" last night (I recorded it from earlier this week). This is their 13th season, and the theme is "No excuses." So, no matter what happens, or what I do, I will not accept any excuses as to why I can not do what I intended to do. Make sense? It does to me. So, for today, I am heading over to Kelli's to continue and pick up where we left off yesterday. I am planning to fix rotisserie chicken for dinner tonight. I haven't decided on the sides yet. But I'll share with you tomorrow.
So, if you've made it this far in reading my post. Thank you. So, I'll be back tomorrow.
Talk to you soon.
Hugs,
Leanne
